It’s safe to say that dark plum and purple lips are in!
I’ve actually always shed away from using such dark colors, whether on myself or a makeup client, but I’ve been testing it out recently and I am so in love. I think they somehow may your whole makeup look – keep the rest of your makeup natural, of course – so moody and bit more polished and even classy.
Here are some of my favorite deep purple lipsticks I’ve been using on rotation, left to right from the photo above:
Inglot Lipstick in 450. Part of their “What A Spice!” Fall 2016 collection, this lipstick is the deepest of the lot – a deep, moody red that could also be passed off as black. I think this would suit those with medium olive to deeper skin tone better, and the pigmentation is one to note – it’s incredible! The rest of the What A Spice! collection is gorgeous too: think deep reds, oranges, red brown and plums.
Reflections Organics Lip Butter in Sweet Plum. I was introduced to this local organic makeup brand recently and I was so impressed… look out for more on them as I’m definitely interested in checking out the whole range. But for now, their Lip Butter, in Sweet Plum is one of my favorite – don’t let the “organic” or “natural” title fool you – this packs quite the punch. It’s very well pigmented, and feels incredible on lips – like you’re just wearing lip balm. Because of that, it’s super moisturizing and the natural scent of vanilla makes it a winner in my books.
Lancome L’Absolu Ruge Defintion Lipstick in 294. My first foray into dark lipsticks was this one. I got sent this ages ago and only recently decided to try it out, and I loved it! My personal makeup, the one I do on myself, is always extremely natural, and a dark lipstick just kinda brings it up a notch. Not to mention, this formula, as you may know since I written about it before, holds really well and will last through eating and drinking.
My suggestion when wearing deep purple/plum lips is to keep your eyes are simple as possible (a swipe of a matte nude eyeshadow, plus mascara – no eyeliner), and make sure your brows are well defined to balance the look.
