So we last talked about our hair types and how to treat it. But whatever your hair type, or hair concern, we all need a clarifying shampoo – especially if you tend to use a lot of hair styling products, which tends to lead to build up.
Not only that, the daily environment factors can also cause build up on your scalp and hair, adding dust, grim, oil, dirt, humidity, smoke, with leave in conditioner, mousse and other volume products, dry shampoo, … our hair can take quite the beating on a daily basis!
The thing is, I’ve found it a bit tough to find clarifying shampoos here in Singapore, which is weird (you can find them online like this one or this one, though), but the next best thing? Make your own! It’s super easy to do, and it uses one of my all-time favorite things: apple cider vinegar.
DIY: Make Your Own Clarifying Shampoo
To make your own clarifying shampoo, all you need to do is to make your own apple cider vinegar hair rinse, which as you may know ACV is amazing in “cleansing” and detoxing, and in this case, will help fix product and oil buildup in the hair.
What you need:
- Spray bottle
- Apple Cider Vinegar (Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is my ultimate favorite and a staple in my household)
- Distilled Water
Here’s what to do:
- Depending on how “much” shampoo you want to make, dilute 1 part of organic apple cider vinegar with 4 parts of distilled water.
- Pour it over your hair in the shower and leave it in for a few minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly.
I’ve even found it better, if you want to do this a few times, to keep your shampoo in a spray bottle and simply spray your hair once a week to truly fix it. Just doing a clarifying shampoo once a week will make your hair will come out bouncy, shiny and full of life.
Disclaimer: Make sure it doesn’t touch your scalp, or your skin or anywhere near your eyes. Be very careful with it, the apple cider vinegar can sting!
And of course, if you’re too lazy, you can always buy Fekkai’s Apple Cider Shampoo!
