While I know some people think this is the first time Hourglass is available in Singapore, a dinosaur beauty blogger like myself will know that they were actually here way in the beginning, around the time Sephora first launched in Singapore.
To celebrate Hourglass’ return to Singapore, here are some of the products I’d recommend trying out from the brand that I used to regularly use, as well as some new ones from the brand that Sephora.sg kindly sent me to try out.
First, of course, is the Mineral Veil Primer (S$84) their star product, and the first foundation primer on the market, if I recall correctly. The Mineral primer is as smooth, easily to blend into the skin and “gentle” on the skin as I remember. It sinks into the skin beautifully and doesn’t feel greasy, or anything of that sort.
Next: Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss ($44). I know, some may think that lipgloss is not that exciting, but you know what? I still think about their lip glosses to this day. I adored it and I remember it being the glossiest, juiciest things ever, with natural, nude colors that made your lips look ridiculously, ridiculously huge. (In a good way.) Definitely going to repurchase them.
Another thing I loved from the brand were their liners. As you can see from my eyes above, the Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner was pretty much a standard liquid liner, but my favorite thing about it was that it was super easy to apply. Now, the staying power wasn’t great – these are the best long-lasting liquid eyeliners I’ve ever tried – but the ease of use was the reason I kept going back to it. Today, use an eyeshadow primer and I don’t think there’d be a problem. (We didn’t have primers in those days!) Also, I’ve been using their pencil liner and like it very much too, the staying power is actually really great.
And of course, their cult-famous Ambient Lighting Powder (S$97).
I think it’s a great palette and definitely is worth the hype – formula is awesome, easy to blend, staying power is great – but for my fellow pale gals, I reckon the palette, especially the first two colors, may be too light for your skin tone. Go for the individual powder boxes they have, which are slightly darker. I did try this palette on a client whose skin tone was about 3 shades darker than mine, and it looked amazing on her. This product would be great if you love to do the strobing makeup trend, and great for highlighting your cheekbones.
And here’s another thing I especially loved: the brush. I’m definitely checking out Hourglass brushes for my makeup kit, they are spectacular. I had no idea they made makeup brushes!
I’ll continue to feature Hourglass on my blog as I continue to test more products, since I can easily get the brand here again, so stay tuned for more. I’m super psyched that they’re back in Singapore! It’s available at Sephora.sg or at all Sephora outlets.
