Hall of Fame: NARS Orgasm Blush

NARS orgasm blush beauty blog review

Finally… the famous NARS Orgasm Blush has gotten into my hands!

NARS is not available in Singapore, so I’m lucky I bought last month in London (right after my trip to Milan)Β where there is a different currency (and my math is too hopeless to convert); ’cause I’m sure thisΒ cost a bomb. Ignorance is bliss, right? Here’s what they say:

“NARS Orgasm makes cheeks blush a perfect pinky-peach flush and subtly highlights with accents of golden shimmer.Β The universally flattering shade is again and again a makeup artist and beauty editor favorite.”

Let’s begin…

The packaging is fantastic. It looks classy, sleek and it feels like a very sturdy compact. I also heard that it shouldn’t get too ‘hot’ as it will melt! Point taken – keep it in your makeup bag far away from the sun, ladies.

The blush itself is very pigmented, so all you need is VERY little product. I thought that the gold sparkles will annoy me, but they are very light and after awhile they seem to disappear. I looked at Super Orgasm and the gold sparkles were very obvious, didn’t really like that to be honest – less is more for me! As you can see, when you apply it straight on, it seems very pink.

The shade is described as a ‘peachy-pink’ and I would say that is very accurate. It looks very pink here and goes on very pink initially, but becomes a warmer color after awhile.

So, to sum up NARS Orgasm; I like it. At first I was weary, and every time I look at it it looks very overwhelming and pink, but it goes on very natural and warmer than expected. I really believe the whole ‘universally flattering’, so far I’ve seen many girls wear it and it looks great on everyone!

This is pretty much my ‘first’ proper blush (only ever used taupe in the past) so I’m definitely still experimenting and I think Orgasm is great for a ‘beginner’ like me. So, I’ll conclude by summing up everything in this post:

  • Don’t fret if you, like me, are a bit hesitant to pink blushes. It looks very bright and clownish in the pan, but once it’s on it’s very natural!
  • Don’t pick up too much color, a little goes a long way. Apply it with a very big fluffy brush and a very light hand.
  • It looks great on medium and dark skin tones as well. I have a friend who’s medium in skin tone and it looks just as stunning on her.
  • The gold sparkles are not obvious or overwhelming – doesn’t look like a 12 year old’s glitter makeup at all! – very subtle and sheer.
  • Try it out at the store first, walk around for 10 minutes, then look in the mirror. The color seems to change once it has settled into your skin. That is why I’ve decided to apply it first when I do my makeup, then by the time I’m finished it looks great!

  1. Congrats on owning a cult product! I have it too, and even though in the beginning I thought it was too light for me (funny huh, when it was pigmented for you? :P), works perfectly now. Whee!

    1. Thanks, Tine! I’m beginning to use more of it, though. Like I said it was my first ‘color’ blush so I am slowly getting used to it. But I love it so much! πŸ™‚

  2. nice! congrats on getting it finally!
looks good to me. might get it when my current blush runs out.

    enjoy it now! πŸ™‚

    1. Hey thanks Val! Long time no speak. Yeah, I definitely recommend it, although the price is scary πŸ˜›

What blush are you using now?

    1. Hey Mabs, thanks! πŸ™‚ Unfortunately NARS isn’t available here yet. The had it a few years ago but they marked up the price so much no one was buying it! Hopefully they’d bring it here soon. πŸ™

  3. hy rene. i still passionately tried to get tht blusher. hv u ever compare it wif The Body Shop new blusher? it seems turn to hv alike result i guess. whats ur opinion?

    1. Hey Pearl – have you tried online stores? Sephora sells it, although the $$$ is a factor. πŸ™ The best bet is to ask someone going overseas to pick up one for you, that’s what all my friends did. (I bought mine overseas in London, though).

And no, I haven’t tried out any Body Shop blushers before, are they good? Are you talking about the mineral blushes they released a year ago?

  4. I HATE Nars blush… wayy to much shimmer. I think it looks trashy.
Their eyeshadows, however, are marvelous due to the shimmer.

    1. I;m sorry it didn’t work out for you, R. πŸ™ I agree that shimmer in blushes are way too much, luckily for me Orgasm was at the limit for me – kinda shimmery but not so much that I hate it. I haven’t tried any other NARS blushes though, so I’m not sure about them.

I have to try out their eyeshadows! I’ve heard so much about them πŸ™‚

  5. I’ve read all over the internet that this blush is amazing i really really wanna buy it but what if i dont like it.. i mean i could use $25 bucks for gas haha.. I’m barely starting to use blush and i like how my face looks.. oh what the heck im gonna get it! If i dont like it well i’ll give it to my niece.. haha to be honest i spend a lot of money on stuff that i don’t need now thats a waste!

    1. Hey Evy! πŸ™‚ You can always try it out in the store and see how you like it. Just ask a sales lady to apply it for you and see how you like it. Remember my tip though (I wrote here: http://beautyfool.com/natural-light-is-best-when-shopping-for-colors/). Go outside in the natural light to see how the color looks on you – those store lights make everything look good when it doesn’t always! πŸ˜›

And I have to agree… it is really expensive, my heart sank after buying it but I really do love it now, and it should last a VERY long time, it’s a huge pan!

  6. hey! this review was fantastic πŸ™‚ i just bought orgasm and i wore it on my cheeks today and i have to say i really love it. the shimmers can barely be seen and i totally agree about the blush oxidizing and changing on contact with skin. when i first applied it i was like “oh man i just totally wasted 26 bucks..” since it looked like a really girly obvious pink.. but then after 10 minutes i looked again and it melted into my skin and it just looks like a natural flush! i put it near my cheekbone dent and it actually makes me look like i’ve got really high cheekbones.. a job that usually my bronzer does.

so overall it is fantastic! i think next time i repurchase (in the 20 years haha) i might try the orgasm/laguna blend because its a two in one thing..

and thanks so much for your review and photos doll! πŸ™‚ it really reassured me and you did a great job xxxxx

  7. I have this blush too, but I didn’t really like the compact they put it in, it was sturdy and felt good, but the product went everywhere inside it, and it gets dirty very quickly πŸ™ I hope to take better care of my blushes like you
