Taylor Swift: Bad Blood, Good Makeup

Taylor Swift probably doesn’t need any more publicity right now, but please look at that makeup in the opening scene of her new video, Bad Blood (her makeup gets more dramatic as the video goes on).

Now say it with me: Gorgeous!

Sure, you might think it’s the usual “smokey eye” look, but there’s a few things to note:

  • Highlighter is so, so important with dark eye makeup. You know that highlighter shade you ignore in that eyeshadow palette you love? Use it. Please. I used to ignore it too, ’til I found out: it makes all the difference.
  • The bronzer is used as “blush”, not to contour. This gives Taylor’s face some warmth – if it were to contour, the look would look too harsh against the dark eyes and would compete with her eyes.
  • A pink, not nude, lip. Usually with smokey eyes a nude lip is “recommended” so that all the focus is on the eyes, but sometimes, when you’re very fair, a nude lip just makes your lip… well, go nude and disappear. So a natural, soft pink lip gives subtle enough definition without taking away all the attention.

I don’t know what products were used on Taylor (it seems no one knows, so far), but try these to recreate the look: NARS Eye Opening Act Palette, Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Cult, Lancome Hypnose Drama MascaraBenefit Hoola Bronzer and Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Carnation.

  1. What do you mean you are a makeup artist now??? I had no idea! That’s wonderful, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I haven’t checked here in a few months and just saw the new description and thought that someone else was running the blog now LOL! Very proud of you <3! I loved what you said about the french beauty approach (even though sometimes I wear way too much makeup lol). Coincidentally I've just seen the bad blood music video today and I definitely prefer Taylor with lighter makeup. xoxo Deborah
